This print illustrates one of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. It tells of the death of St Cecila daughter of a noble Roman. She was persecuted for her Christian faith and condemned to death. Cecilia was taken to the bath to be "scorched" to death but no matter how much the bath was heated she remained unaffected. She perished, ultimately, after being beheaded.
Nigel Oxley describes the processes involved in developing this type of print in Caroline Wiseman's catalogue raisonne.
Bears blind stamp for White Ink Printers accompanied by a receipt from Wiseman Originals.
This print is held in the Tate Gallery collection.
