HAN LIKUN (b 1938)

This woodcut was printed using oil based ink. It depicts a lotus pond with overhanging cherry blossom but deals with this traditional subject matter in an expressive and dramatic way. The cutting is vigorous and dynamic and the print incorporates calligraphy and motifs from seal carving.

Han Likun is professor of printmaking at the China Academy of Fine Arts and has exhibited worldwide.
